Kumbakonam buried 60 stray dogs after being killed.

Local residents in Pattiswaram, Kumbakonam circle have reported to the District Collector that approximately 60 stray dogs were beaten to death and buried on the banks of the Tirumalairajan river. The 15th ward of Pattiswaram panchayat and other areas like Thirumetzhigai, Pudupayyur, Gopinathaperumalkoil, Nandanmedu have been affected by the increase of stray dogs in the region, which has become a nuisance to road users, temple visitors, children, and local residents, who have reported the issue to the separate division of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. In response, the Pattiswaram panchayat administration conducted a job to catch dogs on the night of April 9th, resulting in the alleged killing and burial of stray dogs. The district administration was urged by residents to take immediate action.

M. Prabhu, the coordinator of the Tamil Nadu Farmers’ Front, said that those who were catching dogs caught and beat them with iron rods. An argument broke out when the nearby people heard shouting from the locals. After a complaint was made to the Chairman of the Panchayat Council, he visited the site and denied that the incident happened. However, when the Pattiswaram police went to the site and assured appropriate action would be taken, the public dispersed.

Approximately 60 dogs were buried on the banks of Tirumalairajan River, Kotatchiyar. The residents of the area insisted that the district administration take immediate action. The Panchayat Council President A. Vettichelvi said that a complaint had already been submitted to the special unit of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister about the growing nuisance caused by dogs in the area. Following the complaint, dogs were caught under the instructions of the District Development Officer, Kumbakonam. Nevertheless, some residents had expressed dissatisfaction with him and raised concerns that dogs were being killed and buried. Vettichelvi categorically denied the allegations, assuring the public that their favorite dogs were left safely on the bank of Kollid, and no dogs were killed or buried. He also stated that they had stopped catching dogs immediately.

As a result, the dogs chased away and bitten many people including road users, traffic jams, children and temple visitors. The complaint about this also went to the separate division of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. Based on this, on behalf of the Pattiswaram panchayat administration, the work of catching dogs was carried out on the night of last 9th. They are said to have beaten their favorite dogs to death and buried them.

The residents of the area have insisted that the district administration should take immediate action regarding the dogs that were killed and buried. M. When the local people shouted, the people nearby gathered and started an argument with them. After a complaint was made to the Chairman of the Panchayat Council, he went to the spot and said that no such incident had taken place. But as the general public got into an argument, the informed Pattiswaram police went to the spot and assured that appropriate action would be taken, the public dispersed.

About 60 dogs have been killed and buried on the banks of Tirumalairajan River, Kotatchiyar has been informed that the people of the area will gather and report to the District Collector today and on the 17th. Speaking about this, Panchayat Council President A. Vettichelvi said, “A complaint has been sent to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s special unit about the increasing nuisance caused by dogs in these areas. Following this, the dogs were caught on the instructions of the District Development Officer, Kumbakonam. But some people from the area are raising such problems due to their bad attitude towards me. Now we have stopped catching dogs immediately. We left the favorite dogs safely on the bank of Kollid. “Dogs are not killed or buried here,” he said.
