With the holidays, I had limited film time and had to choose just one. I decided to ask Maria Rita. She has several panda dolls but no Godzillas. Wait! George’s dinosaur from Peppa Pig could perfectly serve as Godzilla…
I called Maria Rita and asked her: Who is stronger, the panda or the dinosaur? She had no doubts. She sat the panda on top of the dinosaur and said: “Bim!”
Satisfied with the result of the battle, Maria Rita went to the toy room humming “Tick tock”, like in the song “O Relógio” by Panda and the Caricas. I was thinking that maybe she wasn’t completely objective, but off I went to see “Kung Fu Panda 4”.
After three death-defying adventures, defeating world-class villains with unparalleled courage and mad martial arts skills, Po the panda is chosen to become a spiritual leader of sorts.
This mission raises some problems. First, Po knows as much about spiritual leadership as I know about baseball. Second, the panda kung fu You need to quickly find and train a new warrior to replace you before you can accept the promotion. Even worse: a powerful and wicked sorceress called Chameleon was recently seen and can transform into any creature, big or small.
Po will need help and it seems that only Zhen, the fox, is left with his invaluable skills but debatable reputation…
“Kung Fu Panda 4” is another take on a very interesting saga and will probably make a lot of money. When the first film was released in 2008, the script was built around a simple concept: Po, voiced by Jack Black, was a dumb, lazy hipster who just wanted to sit around and eat cakes.
Po is now an icon, a mascot, a reference figure for all children with a superhero imagination but who prefer an afternoon of streaming riding a bike or playing football. The adventure that Po will experience in “Kung Fu Panda 4” is that of retirement. At the beginning of the film, Po tries to open a tofu and noodle shop. This is a clear sign of the hero’s decline and – why not say so? – a metaphor for the exhaustion of this franchise.
That’s why the argument seems extremely appropriate: Master Shifu informs him that it’s time for Po to choose a successor and wants to ship him off to the Valley of Peace. But Po, the lazy one, doesn’t want to be one. has been and clings to power like a dictator of those who win elections with 80 percent.
Fate will help Po by making Chameleon appear, the sorceress who can transform into anything. This element alone left the screenwriters struggling. Unfortunately, the creators of “Kung Fu Panda 4” did not use the cloth or recycle it.
Chameleon’s character is interesting – especially because he’s a lizard dressed as if he were going to the Grand Duke’s ball – but all he does is call his henchmen to attack Po. There is a lack of bad guys who disturb us and arouse hatred.

On the positive side, even 16 years after the first time we heard Po, it’s a pleasure to hear Jack Black’s voice full of energy and promising scolding. We would all like better jokes and moments of action as only animation allows, but it doesn’t taste like much.
Meanwhile, I’m finishing this text and Maria Rita continues to hum songs by Panda and Caricas. Now here’s another panda with an enviable longevity and that doesn’t disappoint anyone, not even the demanding Maria Rita.
