Kuwait announced the formation of a new government headed by Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Sabah, two days after the decision to dissolve Parliament and suspend some articles of the Constitution for a period of 4 years.
According to the Kuwait News Agency “KUNA”, “The new government included 13 ministerial portfolios, and Imad Al-Ateeqi retained the position of Minister of Oil, Anwar Ali Al-Mudhaf in the Ministry of Finance, and Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah also retained his position as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, as was added.” He was given the Interior Ministry after he assumed it as an acting representative in the previous government.
The decree, which was signed by the Emir of the country, Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, stipulates that “the Prime Minister and the ministers must implement this decree, and it will come into effect from the date of its issuance and be published in the Official Gazette.”
According to the Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, the decree included the following appointments:
- Fahd Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Minister of Interior.
- Sharida Abdullah Saad Al-Maousherji, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs.
- Imad Mohammed Abdulaziz Al-Ateeqi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil.
- Abdul Rahman Baddah Abdul Rahman Al Mutairi, Minister of Information and Culture.
- Ahmed Abdel-Wahab Ahmed Al-Awadi, Minister of Health.
- Anwar Ali Abdullah Al-Mudhaf, Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment.
- Adel Muhammad Abdullah Al-Adwani, Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
- Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al Yahya, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
- Noura Mohammed Khaled Al-Mashaan, Minister of Public Works and Minister of Municipality.
- Muhammad Ibrahim Muhammad Al-Wasmi, Minister of Justice and Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
- Omar Saud Abdulaziz Al Omar, Minister of Trade and Industry and Minister of State for Communications Affairs.
- Mahmoud Abdulaziz Mahmoud Bushehri, Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy and Minister of State for Housing Affairs.
- Such as Hadi Hayef Al-Huwaila, Minister of Social Affairs, Labor, Family and Childhood Affairs, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs.
The Emir of Kuwait “ordered a few days ago to dissolve Parliament and suspend the work of some articles of the Constitution for a period not exceeding four years,” and the Emir said in his speech: “I will absolutely not allow democracy to be exploited to destroy the state.”
According to Reuters, “Kuwait has been experiencing successive crises for years due to ongoing disputes and conflicts between governments appointed by the Emir and directly elected parliaments, which has hindered economic reform efforts and greatly hindered the development projects that the country needs.”
