Kuwait City: Fatwa Authority Public Affairs Committee stated that it is wrong for visitors to pick and eat plants from the cemetery. The Kuwait Municipality Funeral Department had earlier sought advice from the Fatwa Committee in this regard. Visiting the graveyard is to learn about the afterlife, advise and reminisce. Therefore, it is religiously wrong to pick plants from graves. But it has also been clarified that the caretakers of the cemetery are allowed to pick plants. Meanwhile, the comprehensive development plan to modernize the country’s cemeteries will be completed soon.
Tender process has been initiated for installation of surveillance cameras in graveyards and expansion of Sulaibikhat graveyard. An electronic link will also be established to facilitate issuance of death certificates, permits and other post-mortem procedures.
