Kuwait: Former Prime Minister Stripped of Nationality

by times news cr

Kuwait issued a decree today, Saturday, to revoke the Kuwaiti citizenship by foundation of the Kuwaiti Prime Minister who was appointed by former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein during the Iraqi occupation of the country, Alaa Hussein Ali Al-Khafaji Al-Jaber, and Muhammad Hamad Faq Al-Juwaid.

The decree was issued based on Article 14/2 of the Nationality Law, which allows for the withdrawal of citizenship if it is proven that the holder has worked for a foreign country that is at war with Kuwait, or if political relations have been severed with it.

Alaa Hussein is a former Kuwaiti army officer who cooperated with the regime of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, and formed what was called the interim government. In 1993, he was sentenced in absentia to death on charges of high treason, and then the final appeals verdict was issued with life imprisonment on charges of treason and conspiracy with the enemy in times of war.

Hussein is currently serving a life sentence in Kuwaiti prisons, after choosing to return from exile in 2000 and face the court rulings issued against him. He has only two years left of the life sentence he is currently serving.

As for Mohammed Al-Juwaid, the Kuwaiti government announced his arrest in 2003 on charges of communicating with the Iraqi intelligence services. He held the position of sergeant in the Kuwaiti National Guard.

In another context, Kuwaiti media reported the death of Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, who held several high-ranking positions, the last of which was Prime Minister, and also worked as an advisor to the office of the Emir of the country.
