Kuwait City: Move to ban smoking in closed spaces and halls in Kuwait. The proposal was approved by the Financial and Legal Committee of the Kuwait Municipality. The Municipal Committee has proposed a reform that would allow smoking only in designated areas in accordance with environmental and family laws. Fahad al-Abdul Jader, a member of the municipal council, said he had decided to refer the matter to the executive body and the legal department for comment. The goal is to control the kind of smoking that makes it difficult for others. Kuwait has the highest average smoking rate in the Gulf. The country is second only to Lebanon in the Arab region. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health is preparing to launch 11 clinics to help people quit smoking.
