Kuwait City: The Court of Appeal sentenced a Kuwaiti national who joined the Islamic State of Iran and Syria to five years of rigorous imprisonment after violating Kuwait’s security laws. The accused was aiming to destroy the basic systems of Kuwait and to break the relationship with the friendly country.

The Public Prosecution charged the defendant with engaging in hostile action against Iraq without the permission of the Kuwaiti government. The accused joined the banned organization ISIS, which is fighting against Iraq. This would put Kuwait at risk of severing political ties with another country. The prosecution also argued that the accused joined the banned group knowing that the organization was interested in promoting principles aimed at subverting the prevailing socio-economic system in the country.
