The new Porsche 718 Cayman mid-engine and two-seater comes with two completely new turbocharged flat-four engines.
The new chassis setup of the Porsche 718 Cayman, in conjunction with stronger brakes and an exciting engine sound, ensures even greater driving pleasure and remarkable agility. The series of changes that rocked the car is complemented by modifications to the exterior and interior designs.
The 718 Cayman was equipped with a 2.0-liter flat-top four-cylinder turbocharged engine with a power of 300 hp (220 kW), and the 718 Cayman S was equipped with a 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four-cylinder engine with a VTG 350 VTG “variable turbine geometry” horsepower (257 kW).
The figures indicate 25 horsepower (18 kW) more than the previous two generations, in addition to 90 Nm of torque at engine revs of less than 2,000 rpm. The result is more power from the moment the car takes off, and more thrust for driving pleasure around the corners.
Turbo performance
Thanks to its new turbocharged engines, both coupe models set record acceleration times. They also respond as spontaneously as normal intake motors, thanks to the Dynamic Boost function. So, the 718 Cayman with PDK gearbox and Sport Chrono Package accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds (0.7 seconds faster), compared to 4.2 seconds (0.5 seconds faster) for the model. “718 Cayman S”. Thanks to the reduced capacity of the two engines and the use of a turbocharger, the average fuel consumption of the Cayman 718 with NEDC PDK is limited to 6.9 liters / 100 km. As for the 718 Cayman S, its flat-mounted engine consumes just 7.3 l/100 km with a PDK gearbox.

The fully-revamped chassis setup provides more dynamic cornering and better comfort, as well as reinforced brakes with standard cascade-collision braking. The 718 Cayman versions also had an optional chassis with “Porsche Active Suspension Management” PASM with a floor closer to the road by 10 mm, as well as an optional sports suspension for the “S” version only with “Porsche Active Suspension Management” with a floor closer to the road by 20 mm. mm, for the first time ever.

Speaking of information and entertainment, the German Cayman has equipped the new standard Porsche Communications Management PCM system with audio communication units and a “Sound Package Plus” 150 watt “Sound Package Plus” system, in preparation for connecting it to a mobile phone. The Porsche Communication Management System can be developed with navigation, information, entertainment and communication units.
The 718 Cayman models are available with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox, which can be replaced by the optional 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) gearbox.
In order to save fuel, the PDK is equipped with an improved automatic engine start/stop function, which stops the engine while the car is idling just before it stops.

The car’s better performance was accompanied by the use of stronger brake systems with discs with a diameter of 330 mm at the front and 299 mm at the rear. The 718 Cayman now uses the brake system of the previous Cayman S model.
As for the 718 Cayman S, I got the new four-piston front calipers of the 911 Carrera with thicker discs. Porsche also provided the 718 Cayman versions with a successive collision braking function, which reduces the severity of the second collision by automatically braking the car after an initial collision that causes the airbag to open.

In conjunction with the optional “Sport Chrono Package”, the “Porsche Stability Management System” (PSM) offers an independent setting known as “PSM Sport”, which is activated by simply pressing the “Porsche Stability Management” button on the center console, and also independently of the “Sport Plus” setup in the “Sport Chrono Package”. This allows aspiring sports drivers to move closer to the car’s maximum performance limits, for example while driving on tracks.
More slender body
The new roadster imitates the original 718 sports cars in terms of driving dynamics. Therefore, Porsche has completely re-tuned the chassis to enhance the car’s cornering performance. The electromechanical steering system has also become 10 percent more direct, which improves the agility of the 718 Cayman and makes it easier to steer, whether on the racetrack or in city traffic.
Active Suspension Control
Both versions of the Cayman are available as an option with the PASM “Porsche Active Suspension Management” with a ground clearance of 10 mm. The “S” version of the car can also be ordered with a sporty chassis equipped with “Porsche Active Suspension Management”, which lowers the floor height by 20 mm. The active chassis, also re-tuned, offers a wider range between long-distance driving comfort and dynamic sporty rigor.
“Sport Chrono”
As with the new 911, the optional Sport Chrono Package includes three settings: Normal, Sport and Sport Plus, as well as an Individual setting. The PDK-equipped versions also get the Sport Response Button, which changes the response of the engine and gearbox to be more direct.

Moving to the passenger compartment of the 718 Cayman, it has received its share of modifications with new components, such as the instrument panel and the all-new “Porsche Communication Management System” PCM – which allows control of the telephone and radio – which includes the “Porsche Distinguished Audio System” with a power of 110 Watts.
