Senior Congress leader KV Thomas left for Kannur from Kochi today to attend a seminar on the CPM party congress. It is learned that KV Thomas will leave tomorrow afternoon to attend the seminar. If he attends the seminar, the Congress will take action against KV Thomas. The Congress High Command had said that the KPCC could take action against former KV Thomas for challenging the national and state leadership. KV Thomas, who had announced that he would attend the seminar, had openly said that he had been subjected to severe humiliation by the Congress.

The arrival of Thomas is an advantage for the left

It would be a political achievement for the CPM to bring KV Thomas, who has been at loggerheads with the Congress leadership for a long time, to the left. These moves will benefit the CPM, especially ahead of the Thrikkakara by-election. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had made it clear yesterday that KV Thomas would not be the way forward if he had to leave the Congress.

After the second Pinarayi government came to power, the main strategy that the CPM is trying to implement is to change the Congress leaders who are in cahoots with the leadership. The party leaders had made it clear that the CPM would be with KV Thomas if the Congress expelled him or himself.

It should come as no surprise that KV Thomas will be the candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The CPM is also likely to offer a number of opportunities to the former Union Minister, including the post of Chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission.
