“What? A story made up by the media… It could break.”
Na, Won, and Yoon Yeon-dae: “If we agree with each other, we can merge”
On the 5th, People Power Party lawmaker Kwon Seong-dong drew a line regarding the ‘Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act’ proposed by party leadership candidate Han Dong-hoon, saying, “Even if candidate Han is elected as the party leader, the party’s position must be decided at the general meeting of lawmakers.”
Rep. Kwon appeared on the radio show “Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show” that day and said, “Since the party’s position on passing a bill is decided at the general meeting of lawmakers, there is no guarantee that Representative Han Dong-hoon’s wishes will be carried out just because he has such thoughts.”
He said, “It just increases the possibility that (one candidate’s will will be carried out),” and added, “It will probably be a very noisy issue if it comes up for discussion at the general meeting of members.”
When asked, “What kind of party leader do you think we need?” he answered, “First of all, someone who can smooth out the relationship between the ruling and opposition parties.”
He added, “Didn’t we suffer a crushing defeat in the general election? The most important thing is for the party leader to analyze the reasons for this defeat and create the conditions and environment for future victory.”
When asked, “Do you agree with the statement that ‘Ah-dae-han (the party leader will be Han Dong-hoon anyway)’?” he commented, “It’s a statement made up by the media, and (the national convention) is just beginning, so depending on how much effort the candidates put in going forward, ‘Ah-dae-han’ could continue or break down.”
Regarding the possibility of unification between candidates Na Kyung-won, Won Hee-ryong, and Yoon Sang-hyun, he said, “Politics is a living thing, so I think all possibilities exist,” but added, “If our thoughts align, we can unite.”
Regarding the special prosecutor bill for Chae Sang-byeong that was passed the previous day under the leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea, he said, “The party has already decided to suggest exercising the right to request reconsideration (right to veto), and the Minister of Justice has already made it public that he holds the same position,” and asked, “Since the bill itself is no different from when the veto was last exercised, shouldn’t we maintain consistency?”
