Car ‘explosion’ injures Russian ultra-nationalist author Zakhar Prilepin, kills one

Russian ultranationalist writer Zakhar Prilepin, supporter of the Kremlin attack in Ukraine, was injured on Saturday in the« explosion » of a car in the Nizhny Novgorod region, and another person was killed, the Interior Ministry reported, amid a wave of attacks affecting the country.

“According to preliminary information, one person was killed by the explosion, and the writer Zakhar Prilepin, who was in the car, was injured”says a statement from the press service of the Interior Ministry, stating that the incident took place in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

“Investigators (…) from the Nizhny Novgorod region arrived at the scene of the incident », the Investigation Committee said in a statement. According to the latter, Zakhar Prilepin was in his car ” with her family “ when the explosion occurred. Anonymous medical and security sources, quoted by Russian news agencies, claim that the writer was injured in the legs.

A figure on the Russian literary scene, translated in many countries, the 47-year-old writer committed himself in 2014 to the pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine, alongside whom he fought. Since then, this veteran of the Chechen wars in the 1990s has regularly traveled to eastern Ukraine and defended President Vladimir Putin and his massive offensive against Ukraine, launched on February 24, 2022.
