Kylian Mbappé made it official that he will not renew his contract with Paris Saint Germain and will leave the club at the end of this season.
Three days after another disappointment for the French team in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, the French striker published a video to announce his departure from the Ligue 1 champions, something that was an open secret, as he had already told his teammates.
The French star used his social media to publish his recorded message, where he spoke about what these seven years with the PSG shirt have meant to him and, although he has not yet confirmed where he will continue his career, he gave a clue:
«Hi everyone, I’m Kylian. I want to talk to you. I always said I would do it when the time was right. I wanted to announce to everyone that this is my last year at Paris Saint-Germain. I will not be renewing and I will end my adventure in a few weeks.I will play my last match at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.
There are many emotions, many years I had the chance and the honour of being part of the biggest club in France and one of the best in the world, which has allowed me to get this far and have my first experience in a club with a lot of pressure and to grow as a player alongside some of the best in history, some great champions, to meet many people, to grow as a person, with the glory and the mistakes I made.
First of all, I want to thank all the teammates I had. Also all the coaches: Unai Emery, Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Christophe Galtier and Luis Enrique, and the sporting directors Leonardo and Luis Campos, for always being by my side. To all the club’s workers, those that nobody sees, those that work in the shadows, the physios, the stewardesses, the performance team, the staff, the campus, everyone… All those incredible people who give everything to the club and deserve this recognition. Despite everything that can happen outside, despite the media circus that surrounds the club sometimes, there are people who really love the club and want to protect it and make it shine. That’s great and I know that with all those people the club is in good hands.
It’s difficult. It’s difficult and I never thought it would be so difficult to announce that, to leave my country, France, Ligue 1, A championship that I have always known, but I think I needed this, a new challenge after seven years. It is difficult and, of course, there are some people I want to thank above all, the fans. I know that I am not the most demonstrative player, I have not always lived up to the love that you all gave me during these seven years, but I never wanted to cheat, I always wanted to be effective.
PSG is a club that never leaves anyone indifferent. You can love it or hate it. I made the decision to love it and I did so for seven years, with ups and downs, Of course, but I do not regret for a moment having signed with this prestigious club. It’s a club that I will remember for the rest of my life. I will tell everyone, for the rest of my life, that I had the opportunity to play here and that I will no longer be a player, but I will continue to watch every game, of course, because it’s a club that will always interest me and I will closely follow its developments.
“I was me with my qualities and defects, but I tried to give the best version of myself during those seven years. But first I want to thank you because without you I would never have experienced half of the emotions I felt. And for that alone, I am grateful for life. Thank you all. I hope we finish this year with one last trophy. We will have good times for what remains and I hope you will remain in my heart for my whole life. Ici c’est Paris. Goodbye.”
His last match at the Parc des Princes will be this Sunday, May 12 against Toulouse, after which he will have two more matches with the PSG shirt, away against Nice and Metz in Ligue 1, of which he is already champion, and will close this stage with the League Cup final against Lyon on May 25 at the Decathlon Arena in Lille.
After his arrival in mid-2017 from Monaco, and with six Ligue 1 titles, two League Cups, three French Cups and four French Super Cups, Mbappé puts an end to his successful cycle, despite not being able to win the Champions League, and Although he did not confirm his next destination, he did say that he is outside his country, in Madrid?…perhaps…
