In the consecutive stages of the Pentathlon World Cup, Lithuanian athletes do not stop pleasing with beautiful sport. On Friday, Olympian Laura Asadauskaitė-Zadneprovskienė showed great form and perseverance in the third round of the Cup in Budapest, Hungary. After fencing and swimming, Laura started in 14th position in her subgroup in running and shooting.
To get to the final, she had to overtake 5 competitors and cross the finish line in 9th position. However, the Olympic medalist reminded everyone why these medals belong to her. Laura overtook her competitors one after the other, her hand didn’t shake when shooting, and the athlete finished 6th, ahead of even 8 of the world’s strongest competitors.
The other Lithuanian pentathletes Ieva Serapinaitė, Titas Puronas, Paulius Vagnorius and Jonas Kalaminskas, who also started at this stage of the cup, ended their performances in the qualifications, without reaching the semi-finals. True, Titu was only 3 points short of reaching the semi-finals.
More than 170 of the world’s best pentathlon athletes from 40 countries are participating in the third round of the World Cup.
Historically, Hungary is very successful for Laura and her coach Andriej Zadneprovski. Laura Asadauskaitė-Zadneprovskienė won two gold medals here in 2009. and 2017, and one bronze in 2012.
Andriejus Zadneprovskis won 5 medals here: 4 gold (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005) and 1 silver (2010). . Amber in 2021 won bronze, and Edwin won two gold, silver and bronze medals (2001, 2006, 2007 and 2009).
The final of the World Cup stage in Hungary will take place on April 27. on Saturday.
