La Cordobayangue performance by Agnes Essonti in Art Madrid’23

Agnes Essonti Luque She is a Spanish Cameroonian artist from Barcelona who deals in her works with themes such as identities, culture and belonging from an anti-racist perspective, heavily influenced by different decolonial processes. At the Contemporary Art Fair Art Madrid’23 presents the performance Cordobayangue Wednesday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. and Friday, February 24 at 6:30 p.m.

I began to see how it was a goal to put my own existence, Afro-descendant, Spanishness on the table. That is why right now I am immersed in some processes that have to do with these themes, such as the performance LA CORDOBAYANGUE, which investigates the relationships that have existed between people of African descent who lived on the peninsula and the entire cultural legacy they have left behind.

Agnes Essonti Luque has a Diploma in Photography from the Kensington and Chelsea College of London, postgraduate in Culture and Thought of the Black Peoples by the Complutense University of Madrid and Master in Development of Photographic Projects by the Blank Paper School from Madrid. His work has been shown in various international exhibitions such as the exhibition 1384 Days Wide (10th Bamako Meetings), 14th Dakar Biennale OFF, Ozangé I Biennial of African Photography o to XI Lanzarote Art Biennial, Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum and in the Reina Sofía National Art Center Museum.

In this performance carried out within the cycle vision and presencecurated by Semiramis González in it Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museumthe artist wears a personalized flamenco dress with nothingwhere he carried out a collective memory exercise on slavery, identity, race and the sense of belonging, touring various rooms of the collection.
