“The goal is to rearm the thoughts. » On May 18, during a live broadcast organized by the YouTube channel “Livre noir”, Laurent Obertone delivers the ambition of The fury. This quarterly launched at the beginning of the year presents itself as a « Hara-Kiri of right “, famous magazine of the 1960s several times banned. The candy pink cover of number 2, released on April 24, displays, on its “one”, a caricature of Emmanuel Macron, seated on a pile of banknotes, dressed in a suit jacket and fishnet stockings.

The titles – “The Underside of Power”, “Politicians: are they as vicious as journalists? »or “Sardine Ruisseau strikes back” – give a taste of the subversive editorial line. Inside, 144 pages illustrated with satirical drawings boo the media, “wokism”, right-thinking, power. The tone is deliberately stinging and angry. “It’s the desire to send something heavy very very quickly into the gums of leftism”summarizes Papacito, in the presentation video.

The nationalist influencer, Ugo Gil Jimenez of his real name, is one of the initiators of the project, alongside the designer Marsault and Laurent Obertone, whose best known work, Clockwork Orange France (2013, Ring), claims to demonstrate the wildness of the country. The quarterly is mainly designed around these three authors, who provide a large part of the production. « [Ils] had been present in bookstores for many years. Very followed by their readers, the book made it difficult to bring them together on the same medium.justifies in a written interview Laura Magné, editor-in-chief, at the origin of the magazine. It seemed obvious to us to create a magazine so that they could all express themselves in a satirical and humorous way. »

“Anti-democratic posture”

Other reactionary signatures or from the radical right take part in the project, such as Elisabeth Levy (of the magazine talker), Julien Rochedy (former member of the National Front) or Stéphane Edouard, claimed misogynist. The initiators of this mook (book-magazine) did not resort to investors, but carried out a pre-subscription campaign at the end of 2021. “The project was launched if we obtained 15,000 subscribers on the Lafuria.fr site, an objective which we achieved in three weeks and which enabled us to prepare the first issues”continues the boss of the editorial staff.

Although quite sulphurous, The fury is prominently displayed at Fnac, in bookstores or in most press houses. A presence which allowed the first issue, published in January, to sell some 60,000 copies (including 25,000 issues on newsstands, as many by subscription and 10,000 in bookstores), indicates Laura Magné. On the other hand, none of its artisans appears among the owners of Editions des Furieux, which publish the magazine, created in August 2021 by Arthur Bakerdjian, a ready-to-wear professional.
