The districts and neighborhoods of La Moraleja (Alcobendas, Madrid), Ciutat Jardí (Lérida), Pla de Remei (Valencia) and Salamanca-Goya (Madrid) are the areas that registered the highest average gross incomes in all of Spain in 2021. This is clear from the statistics of Personal Income Tax (IRPF) filers and the largest municipalities by postal code referring to the year 2021, prepared and published this Wednesday by the Tax Agency.

Specifically, La Moraleja, a district of the Madrid municipality of Alcobendas, is the neighborhood with the highest gross income in all of Spain, with an average income of 190,949 euros, 5% more than the previous year (2020). Ciutat Jardí (Lérida) is next, with 102,360 euros, which practically doubles its 2020 income (54,797 euros), taking into account that the total number of taxpayers has only increased by 61 people.

Also noteworthy is the climb to third place in the Pla de Remei postal code in Valencia, where the average gross income has gone from 81,775 to 100,317 euros, although this area was already at the top of the table.

These areas of Lérida and Valencia have displaced the Salamanca-Goya neighborhood of Madrid (99,147 euros), the Pedralbes-Sarriá neighborhood in Barcelona (98,883 euros), the Vallvidrera-Tibidabo i Les Planes neighborhood also in Barcelona (96,094 euros ) and Somosaguas-Humera in Madrid (95,131 euros), which are the ones that usually compete for the podium.

In addition, the postal code of Ciudad Vieja-Centro (La Coruña) has dropped in position, where the average gross income has returned to 39,114 euros, a level similar to that registered in 2019 (39,552 euros) after almost tripling in 2020 (113,461 euros).

Where there are no surprises is among the poorest neighborhoods, with Torreblanca (Seville) in the lead with 10,780 gross euros on average, followed by Nou Alacant (Alicante) with 15,760 euros, Carrús-Plaza de Barcelona (Elche) with 15,959 euros , San Matías-Los Andenes-Las Chumberas (Santa Cruz de Tenerife) with 17,386 euros and Ciudad Jardín (Alicante) with 17,562 euros

The selection of municipalities by the Tax Agency for this statistic has been made according to three criteria of which at least one of them must be met: population size (more than 200,000 inhabitants according to the population census), fiscal size (more than 100,000 personal income tax returns in the fiscal year) and total gross income (having an aggregate gross income of more than 2.2 billion euros). In most cases all three criteria are met simultaneously, but there are a few cases in which only one of them is valid.
