(La Tuque) The crash of a seaplane left two seriously injured Sunday morning in La Tuque, in the Lac-Édouard sector, in Haute-Mauricie.

The accident would have occurred during take-off around 10 a.m., according to initial information gathered by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

After leaving the Seigneurie du Triton, the plane, which had two occupants, would have ended its journey in a wooded area near Lake Edward.

The pilot, an elderly man in his forties, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital center. His life would not be threatened, according to the authorities.

His passenger, a septuagenarian, however, suffered life-threatening injuries as he found himself incarcerated in the aircraft, the SQ reported.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) was called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The SQ’s Major Crime Investigation Division will also work with the TSB to see if there is a criminal element. At first glance, it doesn’t seem like a criminal accident, according to police.
