Transit Agencies Fuel Dodgers-Giants Rivalry with Viral Video War

A playful feud between two public transportation systems – Caltrain and L.A. Metro – has erupted, mirroring the decades-long rivalry between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants baseball teams. The exchange, unfolding on TikTok, highlights the contrasting transportation cultures of the Bay Area and Southern California.

On Monday, Caltrain, the commuter rail service connecting San Jose and San Francisco, launched the first salvo. The agency posted a video mocking Los Angeles’ reliance on automobiles.

The TikTok depicts two individuals, clad in Giants apparel, weighing their options for reaching Oracle Park. “It’s fast, affordable and the trains arrive every 30 minutes,” one of them explains, referencing Caltrain’s convenient service, which stops a short distance from the stadium. Numerous other local transit options also serve Oracle Park. However, upon choosing to drive, the pair is surprised to find their Giants gear instantly transformed into Dodgers merchandise. The video concludes with the tagline: “Driving is for Dodgers fans. Go Giants. Go Caltrain.”

L.A. Metro, the expansive transportation network serving Los Angeles County, swiftly responded. The agency countered with its own video showcasing throngs of Dodgers fans utilizing Metro services. A post accompanying the video cheekily asked followers, “Remind us the last time the Giants won.”

Currently, there are no direct rail connections to Dodger Stadium. The closest train station is the Chinatown Station on the A Line, situated three-quarters of a mile from the ballpark. However, Metro provides a dedicated bus service that shuttles fans between Union Station in downtown Los Angeles and Dodger Stadium. The Dodger Stadium Express also offers service from several locations in the South Bay.

Fans can find detailed information regarding the frequency, schedule, and other specifics of the Dodger Stadium Express here.

The on-field rivalry will continue this weekend as the Giants host the Dodgers for a three-game series beginning Friday. The Dodgers are currently attempting to break a six-game losing streak.
