Laayoune: A photography exhibition retraces the key stages of the Revolution of the King and the People

Organized as part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People, this exhibition, held under the theme “Mohammed V and the struggle for independence”, highlights the symbiosis and communion between the Glorious Alawite Throne and the Moroccan people and the key stages that marked the epic of the national struggle for freedom and independence.

It also aims to contribute to preserving an important fragment of national memory concerning the return from exile of the late HM Mohammed V and the enormous sacrifices that made it possible to free oneself from the yoke of colonialism in order to tackle the establishment of strong national institutions and a modern Moroccan State.

This exhibition recounts the key stages of this luminous page in the history of Morocco, notably concerning “The exile of the late HM King Mohammed V”, “The unanimous uprising of the people against the colonial authorities”, “The talks of Aix les Bains”, “The triumphant return of the late HM King Mohammed V”, “The signing of the Declaration of Independence” and “The signing with Spain of the protocol ending the Spanish protectorate in Morocco”.

In this context, the Wali of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, governor of the province of Laâyoune, Abdeslam Bekrate, accompanied by local elected officials, heads of external services and civil society actors, went to this photographic exhibition which recounts the key stages of this glorious epic, having marked a decisive turning point in the struggle led by the Moroccan people for independence, under the leadership of the glorious Alaouite Throne.

In a statement to MAP, the head of the production and dissemination department at the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication (Communication Department), Rachid Issari, stressed that this exhibition, which brings together around 80 photographs, traces the key stages of the Revolution of the King and the People and illustrates the cohesion between the people and the glorious Alawite Throne, with a view to defending the freedom, independence and unity of the homeland.

This exhibition also aims to transmit to the rising generations the most important events that marked the history of their nation and the sacrifices made by the late HM Mohammed V, to face the yoke of colonialism, indicated Mr. Issari.

Alongside this exhibition, a 20-minute documentary film retracing the key stages of the Revolution of the King and the People is being screened until August 25 at the Palais des Congrès in Laayoune.
