This visit by the Wali of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, Governor of the province of Laâyoune, Abdeslam Bekrate, the General Director of Phosboucraa, Mohamed Hallouzi, elected officials, and the consuls general accredited to Laâyoune, was an opportunity to provide explanations on this new phosphate port, which will support the industrial development program of Phosboucraa.

On this occasion, the wali and the delegation accompanying him received explanations on the implementation of this project aimed at ensuring traffic of 5.2 million tonnes per year, expandable to 8.2 million tonnes per year, by adding a 3rd quay in the second phase.

The main works of this large-scale project consist of the construction of an access bridge to the berthing works with a length of 3.5 km and a width of 25 meters, in addition to a protection work composed of a caisson breakwater of 920 meters and a seawater intake work, with a flow rate of 30,000 M3/h.

In addition, there are the dredging operations required in the access channel, the port turning circle and the berthing area. The durability of all the works is 100 years.

This new phosphate port, which allows the docking of ships with a capacity of 100,000 tonnes (Post-Panamax), aims to ensure the import of raw materials necessary for the production of fertilizers at the chemical complex, as well as the export of finished products, namely phosphate, fertilizers, and phosphoric acid.

The construction phase totals one million man-days, while in the operating phase, this phosphate port will generate 400 direct and indirect jobs.

On this occasion, the wali of the region and the accompanying delegation made a field visit to this new phosphate port, where they saw first-hand the main works of this major project.
