Laayoune: The “Sea without plastic” campaign stops at Foum El Oued beach

Initiated in partnership with the Foum El ‍Oued commune⁢ and local NGOs, this operation‍ targets ⁤children registered in summer​ camps organized ​by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication.

“B7ar Bla Plastic”, in its 5th⁤ edition​ this year, aims to ⁢raise awareness among children about the ‍dangers of plastic pollution and the importance of preserving marine biodiversity.

The children participated in awareness-raising workshops focusing‍ on the ​dangers of plastic and waste linked ⁢to sea fishing, ‍waste⁢ sorting, the preservation of ⁣marine‌ biodiversity, and the recycling of plastic waste.

They were also introduced to diving and underwater fishing techniques⁣ and learned‍ about ⁤the impact‌ of microplastics on ⁣living beings‌ and the⁣ marine ecosystem, as well ‌as‍ the negative consequences of illegal fishing.

According⁢ to Hala Menkari,‌ representing the Mohammed ⁢VI ⁤Foundation for Environmental Protection, this ‍initiative is​ part of the​ 25th season of “Clean Beaches“, the Foundation’s flagship program, which this year targets 109 beaches, including 27 Blue Flag beaches, four marinas, and a natural park.

The ⁤Foundation has been ⁢actively combating coastal pollution​ and Ms. Menkari emphasized that⁤ the “B7ar Bla Plastic” operation will continue to achieve its four objectives.

The goals ‌are to raise awareness among two million young people about⁢ plastic pollution, conduct ‍at least 40,000⁣ environmental awareness activities,‌ reduce plastic waste by‍ eliminating at least 10 ⁤tonnes per beach, and recycle all collected plastic waste.

The Foum El Oued holiday camp ‍director, Boussola ⁤Taleb Bouya, highlighted the importance of the ‌campaign in ​raising awareness among holidaymakers about preserving the cleanliness of⁤ the beach.

The director of Foum El ​Oued beach, Slimane Habadi, added that the operation involves local associations and offers various awareness-raising activities, including a photographic exhibition ‍on biodiversity, workshops ​on underwater heritage, and entertainment activities.

Launched⁢ by ‌the Mohammed VI ⁣Foundation for Environmental Protection under the chairmanship of⁣ Her Royal ⁢Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, this campaign is part of the 25th season of the “Clean Beaches” program.
