The morgue of the Labé regional hospital has become tiny compared to the standing of the largest reference center in the region. Asked what techniques were used for the preservation of bodies, the forensic scientist Mamadou Chérif Diallo spoke about conservation by cold with two cold rooms available with a capacity of 10 lockers and which do not operate at optimal speed due to the electrical variations with the precision that only one locker out of 10 is functional.
Apart from this process, he talks about fixing the bodies in formalin or embalming, which consists of injecting formalin into the vascular bed, which then allows the body to be kept in the open air for around ten days.
On the death documents, the hospital after certifying the death of a patient produces a death declaration which will serve as proof when producing the death certificate later.
In terms of difficulties, Doctor Mamadou Chérif Diallo speaks of an “unsuitable morgue” compared to the flow of patients and which must be expanded and the absence of an independent source of energy.
As a reminder, the Labé regional hospital is in the expansion phase and a site has been chosen in the peri-urban district of Hoore Saala in the urban commune of Labé.
