The Government has rejected the CEOE’s proposal to raise the SMI in 2024 below 4%, as proposed by the Ministry of Labor. The Executive has rejected the employer’s proposal, from which they demand a more ambitious agreement that contemplates an increase of at least 4% that would raise the SMI to 1,123 euros per month.

The Ministry of Labor has presented these basic conditions to the CEOE and has warned that, if they do not accept them, the Government will begin a new negotiation with the unions that will be even more ambitious, since the unions seek to increase it above, up to 5%, while the CEOE sees it as convenient for it to be 3%, with a request that this increase be indexed to Public Administration contracts, something that the Ministry of Finance has already rejected.

With the unions’ proposal, the SMI would remain at 1,134 euros per month in 14 payments, while with the CEOE’s it would be 1,112 euros. The CEOE has assured that they will study the Government’s conditions and will call a new meeting at the end of this week.

Right now, the minimum wage is set at 1,080 euros gross per month in 14 payments for a full day, reflecting notable increases since 2016, when it was 655 euros.
