Labor Isaac Herzog is the new Israeli president

Time.news – Isaac ‘Bougie’ Herzog is the new president of Israel. Long-time politician, belonging to one of the most noble families on the Labor front, succeeds Reuven Rivlin. He will take office for 7 years starting next July 9th.

Herzog, Israel’s eleventh president, won 87 of the 120 Knesset votes. He will also be the first Israeli president son of a former president: his father, Chaim Herzog, held the position for ten years, from 1983 to 1993. Currently head of the Jewish Agency supporting Israel’s Jewishness, Herzog led the Labor Party between 2013 and 2017.

To reach the highest institutional office, Herzog defeated Miriam Peretz, a teacher and civil activist who entered political life after the loss of her husband and two of her six children in combat, in southern Lebanon and Gaza. Peretz had won the prestigious ‘Israel Prize’ in 2018.
