Madagascar officially ratified yesterday in Geneva (Switzerland) all the fundamental conventions of the International Labor Organization (ILO) on the sidelines of the 111th ILO Summit attended by President Andry Rajoelina. The Big Island is rather seen as a good student since it is the 5th country in the world to have ratified the conventions on health and safety at work.

The fundamental conventions of the ILO relate in particular to freedom of association, the right to collective bargaining, the abolition of forced labour, the elimination of the worst forms of child labour, the elimination of discrimination as well as safety and occupational health.

The four conventions have already been ratified last week at the level of parliament. The Maritime Labor Convention Bill, which covers all agreements and proposals relating to maritime activities.

Three other conventions on occupational safety and health, on occupational health services, on the promotional framework for occupational safety and health. The objective being, to prevent accidents at work and to protect the health of workers by reducing dangerous incidents in the workplace, to promote the safety and health of workers in their workplace by establishing medical services in each company .

In his speech at the Summit, Andry Rajoelina called for stronger international cooperation to fight against inequalities at work.

“It is our duty to show solidarity so that social justice becomes a reality, and decent work is a right accessible to current and future generations,” he declared.
