Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Chairman Tufan Erhürman said that the lack of planning and programming in the country creates great concerns about the future. Erhürman and the accompanying CTP delegation visited the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce (KTTO) yesterday. Erhürman was accompanied by MPs Sıla Usar İncirli, Filiz Besim, Fikri Toros and Erkut Şahali during his visit. Stating that nothing is improving in the country, Erhürman stated that they evaluated this bad situation and started visiting non-governmental organizations, public institutions and economic organizations and wanted to establish a dialogue about what can be done. Noting that the problems in economic life are increasing day by day and becoming unmanageable, Erhürman pointed out that lack of planning and programming creates great concerns about the future of the country. Erhürman said, “I don’t remember any other period when bribery and corruption became so obvious and people on the street were able to explain the situation by giving names.”

“We have not received any elements regarding the development plan.”

Chairman Tufan Erhürman noted that the government, which claims to rule the country, wants to prepare a 5-year long-term development plan, but they have not yet received any concrete elements on this subject, and emphasized that KTTO also presented a similar plan to the government, but the government did the exact opposite of what was written in this plan. Referring to the inefficiency in the public sector, Erhürman said, “Let’s tie temporary employment to exams and vacancies. Directorates in technical departments should be excluded from the scope of the triple decree. Let’s specialize and make autonomous institutions such as KIB-TEK, EMU, Şeker Sigorta, Vakıflar Bankası, Cooperative Central Bank and Development Bank. The people working there should be based on merit and should be free from politics. “Even just these three headings will have very important results in terms of merit in the public sector,” he said. Erhürman stated that if the planning in the country is not taken seriously and population growth is not controlled, the country will turn into an unmanageable place after 5 years.

Deniz: No good can come from an action that is carried out without a plan, without a program, without a goal.

KTTO President Turgay Deniz, who spoke during the meeting, said that no good would come to the country from an operation carried out without a plan, without a program and without a target. Noting that they, as the chamber, prepared a 3-year, medium-term development plan and communicated it to the necessary stakeholders, Deniz said, “It was a plan that everyone would accept and that would have social acceptance. “It was talked about but remained,” he said. Stating that they have difficulty seeing the future as business people, Deniz said that if this situation continues, they will go bankrupt. Stating that, as the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce, they attach importance to ensuring social peace as well as economic and commercial activities in the country, Deniz said that crime rates have increased due to economic difficulties. Underlining that they have always had a dialogue with CTP and that they are extremely pleased with it, Turgay Deniz reminded that they responded positively to CTP’s call, especially during El-Sen’s strike, and noted that they are always ready to work together to do something for the country.
