Lady Blackbird fills the Girona Auditorium in her first concert in Catalonia

by time news

The American jazz singer Marley Munroe, artistically known as Lady Blackbird, performed this Saturday at the Girona Auditorium in what was her first concert in Catalonia. Accompanied by her band, she performed the songs from the album ‘Black Acid Soul’, in an 80-minute performance as part of the Black Music Festival program that started at eight in the evening. The concert, which was held in the Auditorium’s Chamber Room, sold out all 360 available tickets weeks ago. In fact, the director of the festival, Pau Marquès, has detailed that “it was the first concert to sell out tickets when we put them on sale”.

The Girona Auditorium was filled this Saturday evening with the performance of Lady Blackbird, who performed the songs from her album ‘Black Acid Soul’ in a concert that is part of the Black Music Festival programme. The American singer expresses herself through jazz music, which she mixes with gospel, rhythm & blues, soul or rock, transcending the limitations of genres. He does it accompanied by a band made up of four members: Chris Seefried on guitar, Kenneth Crouch on keyboard, Jonny Flaugher on bass and Tamir Barzilay on drums.

Vocalist Lady Blackbird, Marley Munroe’s alter ego, began the performance by performing the single ‘Black Acid Soul’, followed by ‘Walk with me’ and ‘Blackbird’. Here he stopped to address the audience; he started in Catalan by saying: “Good night, Catalonia”, coinciding with the first occasion that he is doing a concert there. Blackbird later explained in English that he had been in the city for a couple of hours, but that what he had seen was “fascinating”. He is on tour in Europe; he had a concert in Italy and this Sunday he has another one in London.

The director of the festival, Pau Marquès, highlighted the singer’s voice as one of the features that made them decide to bring her to the Black Music Festival. He also explained that the tour facilitated his presence. “We immediately saw that it was a concert that sold well and was the first to sell out.” A scenario that the director would like to be repeated in all the proposals of the festival. Overall, he says, “it’s going pretty well, but it can always be improved.”

Black Music Festival

The Black Music Festival started on February 1 with the Freedom First concert at the La Mercè Cultural Center and will end on March 26 with a picnic in the Migdia park with several groups and a DJ and the performance of Jack Broadbent in La Mercè. This year’s edition had around thirty proposals.
