Laidze residents want a part of the meadow near the children’s playground to be left at the disposal of the Laidze parish administration and to be a place for the development of children’s and youth’s sports interests and leisure infrastructure. The meadow at the address “Bērnudārzs” with the cadastral designation 88680070058 is planned to be handed over for construction, while the children’s playground, which is located next to it, has been handed over to the association “Mēs — Laidzei” for the renovation of children’s playground equipment and the installation of new equipment with a land lease agreement for seven years.

In a conversation on August 29, Marika Grohjacka, the head of the administration of the association of Laidze and Vandzene parishes, who takes over as the head of the administration of the Valdemārpils association on September 1, explains that the submission of residents of Laidze parish to the Talsi City Council does not contain any objections to the planned construction works, but signatures are being collected for it. so that citizens are better informed about what is happening and their opinions and interests are also taken into account.
“We understand that we cannot wait for the municipality because there is no money, but we want to do something ourselves. And the association leased the land for seven years with the idea that a new children’s playground will be built,” says M. Grohjacka.
Knowing the financial situation in the region, the citizens’ initiative group created the association “We – Laidzei” with the aim of helping the municipality to implement valuable plans in Laidze, and the first pressing issue was the children’s playground. Many years ago, the residents under the leadership of Ieva Krumiņa managed to do it on their own. “We understand that we cannot wait for the municipality because there is no money, but we want to do something ourselves. And the association has leased the land for seven years with the idea that a new children’s playground will be built, because the old one has already served morally. I myself was very pleased with the determination of the local population. There is also a football field in the meadow near the children’s playground, where the Little Opera and the parish festival took place. We also want to polish the volleyball court. We have ideas and our dreams. Kindergarteners also go there to play sports, because there is no other alternative. The Laidze stadium is not the property of the municipality, so we cannot do anything there and put our hands on it, but the children are active and want to actively express themselves. Realizing that the businessman wants all this green area, the goal of the residents is to communicate and ask the municipality to leave the area that we are already using for activities. Parents feel safe about their children in this area, because there are residential houses nearby, it is the very center of the settlement,” says M. Grohjacka. She admits that the project and idea of the company seems visually attractive, everything is well thought out, but for lay people it would mean losing an important place of daily life, so the locals are asking the municipality not to give the entire territory to the entrepreneur for construction, including the border of the children’s square.

“Not all people who have signed the application have seen this project. As is known, the project does not envisage renovations or reconstructions, but the construction of new houses. Many things are shrouded in fog for the residents, so this meeting with the businessman and council members is necessary. In the parish, we have achieved that heavy vehicles are no longer parked in the residential area, we have achieved good standards of courtesy in the sleeping area. A lot has already been done in the area of residents’ well-being, so residents want to know what to expect next, because there will be a lot of new things,” comments Marika Grohjacka, who also met with the chairman of the board of SIA “Magnum Social & Medical Care” Kristiānas Dāvi, to whom she expressed the residents’ concerns.
“We are currently preparing the facility for further work and in parallel designing the social care industry – similar to the one in Liepāja, where there is a center for social care, rehabilitation and palliative care,” said K. Dāvis.
Pašonly discussions are going on at the moment
When contacting the specific businessman, he tells that the company has currently leased the former dormitory building of Laidze Technical School. “We are currently preparing the facility for further work and in parallel designing the social care industry – similar to the one in Liepāja, where there is a center for social care, rehabilitation and palliative care. Provisionally, the whole conclusion could be no sooner than in a year and a half, because the construction board still has to submit documents for the reconstruction works, which we still have to coordinate. So it could be the spring of 2026. But we will see that in the course of the process. Maybe we will gradually open this institution, as we did in Liepāja, but right now it is still too early to comment on it,” explains the chairman of the board of SIA «Magnum Social & Medical Care». Asked whether he is open to a conversation with the local community, which has many questions, Kristians Dāvis says that everything has its own order, but no one has expressed such a wish so far. “We work with the local government, which is basically the representation of the specific population. We don’t have to knock on every resident’s door. I also met with Marika Grohjack, to whom I explained the essence of the project and listened to all the concerns that people are worried that there will be no more green space. During the conversation, we came to a common conclusion that we don’t need all of this territory, but a part of it, so we are working with the designers and the municipality to see if and how we can ieruhmhave beentiesso that the local population is satisfied. But at the moment, no decisions have been made, and we have not received any approval for our idea from the municipality. There are only discussions, so I don’t want to run ahead of time and say that something will and will happen,” says K. Dāvis, whose long-term vision and plan of the company he manages is to go wider and develop its services in other parts of Latvia as well, starting with Kurzemi.
“We have a vision that it is a new type of care format, where there is not only social, but also high-quality medical care at a high level, which we want to provide,” says Kristiāns Dāvis.
Trīs modern’s, git’s gone bad have beenwhat for seniors
“Let’s be realistic – our institution, which is in Liepāja, cannot be equated with traditional Latvian boarding houses. We have a vision that it is a new type of care format, where there is not only social, but also quality medical care at a high level, which we want to provide. The houses, which are planned to be built on the specific plot of land in Laidze and which are currently the subject of this concern, are part of the European Union’s structural fund projects, which are implemented together with the Ministry of Welfare. Respectively, with the funds of the European Union structural funds, we were able to attract financing from the European structural funds to build three new, family-type one-story buildings, where up to 16 residents are expected to live. There are mainly single rooms with their own bathroom and also shared rooms, which are very popular in Western Europe and America. Taking into account that such a project was initially intended only for municipalities, we as private businessmen could not apply for it, but now a situation has arisen that only three municipalities have applied for one of the 17 planned projects, and there are about 70 million euros left from the funds of the fund , which have not been used. There is a risk that this money could be lost, so the Ministry of Welfare amended the regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers to give the opportunity to private businessmen to start in this specific selection and apply for the construction of these small houses. As progressive service providers in Latvia, we realized that people also need such a service segment,” says Kristiāns Dāvis.
