The Hosu Lee Young-Jun Cultural Foundation announced on the 22nd that the Lake Cultural Festival will be held to present a performance to publicize Jeongga to inherit the spirit of the late Hosu Lee Young-Jun, the holder of the Seokamje Sijo, an intangible cultural heritage of Seoul, under the theme of ‘Hosu Pungryu’.
The performance consists of song, dance, and music that combines traditional vocal music, dance, and instrumental music. This performance will run for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from 3 PM on the 26th at Donhwamun Traditional Music Center in Seoul, and is free to view.
A total of 35 performers will participate in this Lake Cultural Festival. Lee Si-eun, chairman of the Hosu Lee Young-jun Cultural Foundation, and students who have completed the Seokamje Sijo, an intangible cultural heritage of Seoul, will sing the Seokamje Sijo, and Kim Byeong-o, a national intangible heritage Jongmyo Jeryeak tradition educator, will appear and show the beauty of traditional vocal music. In addition, the Hoseojeongga Choir will appear and sing the Seokamje Sijo, and Park Geum-rye and Bae Hee-seon will appear in dance, showing the essence of traditional dance. In instrumental music, members of the National Gugak Center’s Jeongak Troupe will appear and show quality performances. Seo In-hwa, former director of the Busan National Gugak Center, and Park Joon-young, former director of the Busan National Gugak Center, will host and host the event in a comfortable conversation format and interact with the audience.
The performance is divided into Part 1 and Part 2. The first part of the performance introduces the arts of the ancient ancestors through solo performances, solo singing, and solo dancing. The second part of the performance shows the current state of continuing traditional music with a sijo chorus. Lastly, the clear voice of the Hoseojeongga Choir shows the future of traditional music. The 2nd Lake Cultural Festival was planned to be a venue that showcases the past, present, and future of traditional music.
This stage plans to introduce the public to Korean traditional music, especially Jeongga (Seokamje Sijo, 12 lyrics). In addition, we would like to create a time to share the pungryu culture enjoyed by ancient scholars.
Lee Si-eun, chairman of the Lake Lee Young-jun Cultural Foundation, the organizer of the Lake Cultural Festival, said, “Through this performance, I want to introduce the beauty of traditional music, especially Jeongga, to citizens.” “Like the characteristics of Seokamje Sijo, which is the most sung in the country, traditional art is transmitted. “I hope it becomes a subject of interest to the public,” he said.
The ‘Lake Cultural Festival’ is a performance that started in 2023 and is now in its second year. The Lake Cultural Festival was planned as an opportunity to reexamine the value of traditional art and reflect on its meaning. In particular, we shed new light on Seokamje Sijo, which unifies the singing techniques of Gyeongje and Hyangje, which are singing techniques from all over the country. This Lake Cultural Festival is hosted by the Lake Lee Young-jun Cultural Foundation, and is sponsored by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea City Lighting Artists Association.
