Berlin – Berlin’s new red-green-red state government wants to oblige the housing industry to a voluntary rent moratorium in the federal capital in talks about a new building alliance. But there is objection from the real estate industry. The Association of Berlin-Brandenburg Housing Companies (BBU) issued on Wednesday, “considerations on a blanket rent moratorium a rejection”. Many member companies would not have exhausted their rent increase options after the rental cap, explained BBU boss Maren Kern. “Once again, social responsibility is the best protection against rising rents,” says Kern.
