Lando Norris Surprises as He Claims Victory at Dutch Grand Prix, Narrowing Championship Gap to Max Verstappen

by time news

The orange tide indeed took place in Zandvoort, but for once, it wasn’t Max Verstappen riding it… but Lando Norris! The Brit secured victory at the Dutch GP, marking his second win of the season after his first success in Miami. This victory brings him closer in the Drivers’ Championship: thanks to his win and the point for the fastest lap, the McLaren driver is now 70 points behind leader Max Verstappen, who limited the damage with a 2nd place finish at home.

Lando Norris also stands out from the other drivers in 2nd place in the championship: Charles Leclerc, who finished third in Zandvoort, is now 33 points behind the Brit. Behind them, Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz, who finished 4th and 5th in the Dutch GP respectively, are also 4th and 5th in the championship with 179 and 172 points. The only change in the standings is that with his 9th place, Pierre Gasly climbs to 14th position with 8 points.

On the constructors’ side, the gap is narrowing for Red Bull (434 points), which sees its lead reduced to just 30 points ahead of McLaren (404 points). With Charles Leclerc’s podium finish, Ferrari (370 points) remains at a reasonable distance behind the two leading teams. Disappointing in Zandvoort with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finishing 7th and 8th, Mercedes (276 points) now trails the Italian team by 94 points. With the two points earned by Pierre Gasly, Alpine raises its total to 13 units and gains a little breathing room ahead of Williams.
