Colombo: Eleven districts in Sri Lanka are at risk of landslides, with 26 people reported dead so far. The death toll from the northeast monsoon rains in Sri Lanka has risen to 26. The National Disaster Agency said about 17 districts were badly affected. Accordingly, more than 2 lakh 30 thousand people belonging to more than 60 thousand 264 families have been affected.

Landslide warning issued for 11 districts. Landslide Red Alert has been issued for some parts of the three districts of Kandy, Kegalle and Kurunegala. The Meteorological Department has forecast thundershowers in various parts of Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, 6 people were killed by lightning. The normal life of the people has been affected due to continuous rains. Across the country, 23 homes were completely damaged.

1,253 houses were partially damaged. A Red Alert has been issued for several areas as more heavy rains are expected in the coming days. DMC Deputy Director Pradeep Kodipilly said that precautionary notices have been issued to the areas due to rising water levels in reservoirs and rivers. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Navy and the Disaster Rescue Team are rescuing people affected by the floods.
