Sri Lankan government bans petrol sales in country The government has also decided to set aside fuel only for essential services. The ban is for two weeks. During this period, fuel will be provided only for buses, trains, healthcare and food delivery vehicles.

The government had announced that the country would be closed from midnight on Monday to July 10 to resolve the crisis. Schools were also closed for two weeks. Public sector employees were also advised to work from home.

At the same time, the government has decided to change the current system of allowing only two companies to supply oil. Only companies from oil-producing countries are allowed to import and sell oil into the country. The recommendation for this was approved by the Cabinet.
