Lapid: Boycott the unit headed by Avi Maoz

by time news

Against the background of the storm surrounding the transfer of powers from the Ministry of Education to Abi Maoz and the Noam faction, Prime Minister Yair Lapid today (Friday) called on the heads of authorities throughout the country not to cooperate with the unit in the ministry that will be under Maoz.

Last night Lapid sent an open letter to all the heads of the authorities, and wrote: “I am writing to you with great concern for the future of the education system and the state, since the new government established in Israel has abandoned the education of our children and handed them over to the most extreme and dark elements in Israeli society.”

“As you know,” Lapid wrote, “this is an extremist, racist, homophobic and dangerous party. I urge you not to cooperate with the unit for external programs and partnerships in the Ministry of Education as long as it is controlled by Maoz. The heavy responsibility for the educational content that our children will learn in schools – is now moving to you. In order to maintain the state and liberal education system, as it has been until now, and to exercise the right of the local government to shape education in its field, you must now act as gatekeepers.”

Yesterday, three municipalities, which joined the Tel Aviv municipality, announced that if liberal study programs in the education system are canceled, they will finance them from their budgets. This is about Ramat Hasharon, Hod Hasharon and Ramat Gan. The Mayor of Ramat Gan, Carmel Shama HaCohen, announced that the municipality will fund two hours of teaching a liberal curriculum as compensation for every hour that is canceled in the education system.
