“I presented the chancellor with sensitive and relevant intelligence information on Iran. We received a listening ear and full cooperation,” tweeted Prime Minister Yair Lapid after his meeting yesterday in Berlin with German Chancellor Olaf Schulz.
The two men mentioned the possibility of Germany buying Israel Arrow 3 missiles for anti-missile defense. Lapid said during a short visit to Germany that “the partnership between Israel and Germany requires us to act together against the growing threat of turning Iran into a nuclear state.”
Regarding the nuclear issue, Mossad head David Barnea said yesterday at Reichman University that Israel has thwarted dozens of terrorist attacks around the world, in Cyprus, Turkey and Colombia. According to him, Iran has weakened but it is still leading a global campaign that aims to hurt Israel and the Jews because they are Jews.
After the meeting with Chancellor Schultz, Yair Lapid told reporters in Berlin: “Israel will play a role in building Germany’s defense, especially in the area of air defense. This is about our commitment to the security of Germany and Europe so that liberal countries can defend themselves.”
According to the reporters, Lapid said that Germany is holding talks on the purchase of Arrow 3 “as part of Berlin’s efforts to strengthen its army after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”
The Prime Minister spoke of: “a future deal”, while Chancellor Schulz said that Germany would strengthen its defense by purchasing a defense system, and defined Arrow 3 as a “proposal at a high level of execution”, but did not go into details.
A senior German government source told a Reuters reporter: “It is true, there is a plan to buy Arrow 3, but nothing has been signed yet.”
On the issue of Iran, Lapid emphasized the importance of the fight against the nuclear program and “a return to the agreement under the current conditions would be a reach. We must act together against the growing Iranian threat of becoming a nuclear state.”
The Prime Minister arrived in Berlin accompanied by a group of Holocaust survivors, and the entourage visited the Villa Wanse near Berlin, where the decision to exterminate the Jewish people was made in 1942.
