Large Balloon Crash in São Paulo Shocks Residents, Causes Power Outage and Traffic Disruptions

A large balloon crashed onto a residence, startling residents in the eastern zone of São Paulo this Monday morning (22).

According to the Fire Department, the device fell around 3:40 AM in the Aricanduva area. In addition to the property, it struck the electrical wiring on the street, causing a fire.

The flames were extinguished, and the incident was declared resolved shortly after 6:30 AM today. There were no injuries.

Enel Distribuição São Paulo informed that the balloon’s fall onto the power grid caused a power outage in part of the eastern zone of the city. According to the company, teams are working to resolve the issue, and 95% of those affected have already had their power restored.

Second case

In a statement, CPTM reported that the fall of another balloon early this morning, also in the eastern zone, interfered with train circulation between 4:10 and 4:20 AM. At the time, trains ran with longer stop times at the platforms, as the fall occurred near the Corinthians-Itaquera station.

The operation has already returned to normal.
