Every year, tens of thousands of migrants brave the English Channel in an attempt to reach the UK.

As authorities scramble to deal with the influx of migrants, the number of people crossing the English Channel in small boats into the UK has increased, the country’s Ministry of Defense has said.

Nearly 700 migrants and asylum seekers crossed the English Channel on a single day this week, the highest number so far this year, government officials said.

Britain’s Ministry of Defense said 696 migrants crossed the canal on 14 boats on August 1, up from the previous figure of 651 in April, and French authorities intercepted two boats carrying 35 people.

Every year, tens of thousands of migrants brave the Channel in an attempt to reach the UK, with more than 17,000 arriving in the country so far in 2022, according to government figures.

In 2020, 8,404 migrants and in 2021, 28,526 migrants have crossed the canal through small boats, and 3,683 people have traveled so far in 2022, according to government officials.
