San Diego, California. – More than 1.6 tons of methamphetamine and cocaine were seized after being found in a shipment of jalapeño paste, at the Otay commercial checkpoint, CBP authorities reported, this Thursday.
The seizure with a value greater than 10 million dollars was recorded at approximately 10:40 a.m. on December 13, according to information from Customs and Border Protection (CBP, for its acronym in English).
A 28-year-old man who was driving the commercial trailer with the shipment manifested as jalapeno paste, according to CBP officers, was referred for a more extensive review by agents of this agency.
In the secondary inspection area, a CBP K-9 unit inspected the shipment, and alerted officers to examine the trailer more closely, U.S. federal authorities said.

CBP agents then allegedly discovered and removed a total of 349 suspicious packages that upon analysis were identified as 1.4 tons of methamphetamine, and just over 237 kilos of cocaine.
