LAUPHEIM — At the beginning of this year, the VR Bank Foundation initiated a tree planting campaign in collaboration with the Laupheim city administration. The foundation donated €10,000 to the city for planting green spaces. With this financial contribution, a total of 61 trees were purchased from a regional tree nursery, some of which have already been planted.
The Baustetten Nature and Bird Protection Association was actively involved in the campaign. Equipped with spades, beaver protection fences and buckets for watering, volunteers planted 37 trees along the Dürnach and at the dump. In autumnal but dry weather, alders, hornbeams, field maples and fruit trees were planted on a Saturday morning. Among the 15 helpers, children were also eager to help. After the work was done, everyone had a refreshment in the clubhouse of the nature and bird protection association.
In addition, three larches were planted by the tree nursery in the castle park. 11 trees found their place on the municipal lawn of the quarry lake at Mobipark. Ten more fruit trees will soon be planted in the orchard behind the New Cemetery.
Mayor Ingo Bergmann, who was involved in the planting campaign in Baustetten with his family, thanked the board of the VR Bank Foundation on behalf of the city: “Trees contribute in many ways to improving environmental quality and maintaining quality of life. Planting trees is a sustainable act that directly benefits the people in Laupheim and the surrounding areas.”
The VR Bank Foundation carried out its “We are planting the future” campaign for the third time. “Through these measures we support sustainability in our region,” said the chairman of the VR Bank Foundation, Markus Langner, at the official donation handover. This includes, on the one hand, preserving important habitats for insects and, on the other hand, creating a green environment for the people in the region. “With this campaign we show that sustainable commitment in our region is a matter close to our hearts and that we don’t just talk about it, but also actively contribute to climate protection with every new tree we plant.”
The VR Bank Foundation was founded in 2018 on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Volksbank Raiffeisenbank Laupheim-Illertal eG. Its purpose is to promote the health system, youth and elderly care, art and culture, education, nature conservation and landscape management as well as charitable purposes. The foundation regularly initiates campaigns to support these goals: Examples include the successful registration campaign for the German bone marrow donor database with almost 800 participants, the allocation of raised beds, insect hotels and nesting boxes with WiFi cameras to kindergartens, schools, clubs and senior centers, as well as the blood donation campaign “Donate your blood – we donate money,” which has already been carried out twice.
