The Austrian oil and gas concern OMV announced the discovery of a new gas well, which will allow the company to increase natural gas production by 50 percent, according to the company’s website, Day.Az reports citing Lenta.ru.
The Wittau Tief-2a well was the largest discovery in 40 years. It is located in Lower Austria and has a potentially recoverable resource of 48 terawatts per hour, equivalent to 28 million barrels of oil equivalent. The company expects to increase gas production by 50 percent after the field is fully developed. After five months of use, the final well was drilled to a depth of five thousand meters. OMV called the opening “exciting news” for both the company and its customers.
