/ The Confederation of African Football announced a ban on the use of laser devices on the pitch during the matches of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which will kick off on Saturday night.

The laser ban was included in the list of banned substances announced by the African Union during the tournament, which will start with a match between host Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau.

The Egyptian national team suffered greatly from the laser beams during the decisive match against Senegal in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, which the Pharaohs lost on penalties.

Football fans, especially in Africa, use laser beams to shine into the eyes of opposing players, in order to confuse them, especially during penalty kicks.

The list of “prohibited items” included fireworks, whistles, loudspeakers and glass items, among other items.
