Nickelodeon Unveils ‘Avatar: Seven Havens,’ the Next Chapter After ‘The Legend of Korra’
A new sequel to ‘The Legend of Korra’ has been announced, revealing an Earthbending Avatar in a world where her power marks her as a destroyer.
Nickelodeon has officially announced the next animated installment in its beloved fantasy saga, a new sequel series titled Avatar: Seven Havens. The project was revealed with first-look artwork at San Diego Comic Con on Thursday, during a panel celebrating the 20th anniversary of the franchise.
This new series directly follows the events of both Avatar: The Last Airbender and its successor, The Legend of Korra, promising to usher in a new era for the world of benders.
A Darker World, A Hunted Avatar
Avatar: Seven Havens introduces a dramatic shift in tone for the franchise, centering on a pair of Earthbending twins. The story ignites when one of the twins discovers she is the new Avatar, the singular being capable of mastering air, water, earth, and fire.
However, her journey will be far different from that of Aang or Korra. The series is set in “a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm,” according to an official synopsis. In this dangerous new landscape, the Avatar’s immense power is feared rather than revered. The synopsis adds, “that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”
This high-stakes premise suggests a narrative focused on survival and mystery, as the new Avatar must navigate a hostile world while grappling with her own identity and origins.
First Look and Anniversary Celebration
The reveal at San Diego Comic Con was part of a landmark 20th-anniversary panel that brought together the creators and voices that defined the franchise. Original creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino were joined by an all-star lineup of voice actors, including Zach Tyler Eisen (Aang), Mae Whitman (Katara), Jack De Sena (Sokka), Michaela Jill Murphy (Toph), Dante Basco (Zuko), and Janet Varney (Korra), among others.
The first-look image showcases the young Earthbending Avatar on the move in a rocky desert, accompanied by a companion and a new animal sidekick resembling a cross between a cat and a lemur. In the distance, a city looms under a sky illuminated by mysterious lights, hinting at the cataclysmic state of the world.
An Expanding Universe
Avatar: Seven Havens is just one part of a major expansion for the animated universe. Also confirmed is a new feature film, The Legend of Aang: The Last Avatar, which is slated to hit theaters on Oct. 9, 2026.
The film will feature a star-studded voice cast, including:
- Eric Nam as Aang
- Jessica Matten as Katara
- Roman Zaragoza as Sokka
- Dionne Quan as Toph
- Dave Bautista and Steven Yeun as a mysterious villain
With a new television series exploring a darker future and a film revisiting its iconic original characters, the world of Avatar is poised for significant growth, promising new adventures for a new generation of fans.
