BOLZANO. The smoking ban? It will now come into force in 2025. There is no more time. Last days of diving at the Lido – it closes on Sunday 8 September – with the Municipality that continues to fight what seems to be a losing battle. The sports councilor Juri Andriollo does not accept that there are people who for fashion, whim or challenge enter the pool in their underwear. “We are talking to individuals who devote themselves to this art but it is not easy to convince them. We clash daily with arrogance and rudeness. A question that I find frankly unacceptable.”
Meanwhile, the summer started late and doesn’t let up. The Lido on Viale Trieste, the beach of the Bolzano residents, has an average of more than two thousand hits per day. The councilor draws up an initial assessment: «We have recovered from the first weeks of rain. We are almost in line with last year’s numbers, which were more than 119 thousand accesses registered between May 20 and September 10. In a few days we will deliver the official data to you».
It should be remembered that in 2023 the Municipality had recorded a decrease, approximately nine thousand fewer accesses than the previous year.
Bathing in underwear
“We received several complaints and for this reason we decided to intervene,” recalls the councilor. The Municipality has thus said no to briefs and boxers in the pool. “You can only enter the water with a swimsuit. I don’t know if it’s a trend or not knowing the difference between underwear and sportswear. For us it’s only and exclusively a question of hygiene.”
But the problems remain.
«I have deployed street workers to approach young people and explain to them that you don’t go into the pool wearing underwear. But the approach is not easy. We need to educate people to respect the rules and to common civil life but the attitude that bounces back too often is unacceptable. They respond with arrogance and rudeness. There is still a long way to go. But let’s not go back”.
Smoking ban, the soap opera
What happened to the ban on smoking cigarettes and even electronic cigarettes? «We’re starting next year. In the last few days I carried out an inspection with the technicians and four smoking areas identified. All four far from the children. I think it is a solution that everyone can agree on.” There was a huge outcry against the smoking ban and a petition was launched.
The proposed resolution to modify the Lido regulations – with the ban on passive smoking – was launched by TeamK councilors Matthias Cologna and Thomas Brancaglion – and found everyone in favor. Only two votes against. Andriollo had the very delicate task of placing the prohibition signs. “After the initial protests we found a solution and identified four areas for smokers.” A Solomonic solution – we hope.
