The municipalities of Valladolid, Toledo, Ciudad Real, Burgos and Orihuela eliminate the Department of Equality after the PP and Vox pacts

The municipalities of Burgos, Valladolid, Toledo, Ciudad Real and Orihuela eliminate their Equality departments from this mandate, which will be replaced by those of Family, after the agreements reached between PP and Vox to form the new consistories resulting from the elections of 28 -M.

The socialist councilor of Burgos Estrella Paredes, who held the department of Equality and Women in the past term, has accused the popular of leaving sexist violence “in the hands of those who deny it”, in reference to Vox. In Valladolid, the City Council will also pass from a parity government to a majority of men, and there is no trace of the women’s support office, which the PP did promote in the campaign.

For the former mayor of Ciudad Real, the socialist Pilar Zamora, with the suppression of the Department of Equality, the PP shows that it has become a “hostage” of Vox’s policies.

The exchange of the departments of Equality for Family in town halls governed by PP and Vox coincides with the controversy that arose from the statements of Santiago Abascal, leader of the far-right party, who has rejected the existence of gender violence, considering that it is about “an ideological concept”.

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has responded and has assured that he will not take a step back in the fight against sexist violence. The leader of Sumar, Yolanda Díaz, has reminded the PP leader that women ask for facts, not words: “And the facts say that he has agreed with the extreme right to trample on the rights of women in our country.” (Eph)
