PP-Vox agreement in the Balearic Islands | Violence against women within the family and limits to trans rights

The Popular Party and Vox have signed an agreement made up of 110 points in which they exceptionally allude to “machismo”. The document refers to violence against women and, two points later, includes it as part of intrafamily violence. In the section on social and family policies, point number 82 mentions that “all assistance, support and fight against violence against women will be guaranteed. In the next, they state that “work will be done to eradicate sexist discourses (… .) that promote or justify violence against women. Point 84 mentions that “victims of domestic violence will be supported and assisted, especially that suffered by women, that suffered by children and that suffered by the elderly, as well as the increasing child-to-parent violence.”

In recent days, in its eagerness to pave the way for agreements with the PP, Vox has gone from admitting only “domestic violence” (against spouses, children or grandparents) to recognizing that there is “violence against women”. The leader of Vox himself, Santiago Abascal, spoke on Tuesday even of “macho violence”, although he did not explain the reason for the change or what he understands by the term machismo.

The Balearic Islands agreement also includes the request for the repeal of the ley trans, and guarantee “that women are and feel protected in private spaces, such as changing rooms or bathrooms, as well as in the field of sport.” He also calls for the repeal of the law on sexual freedom, known as the law of only yes is yesand “political responsibilities will be requested from those who have collaborated in the release of these aggressors”
