New Delhi: India’s star women wrestler has recently returned from Paris Olympics. Vinesh, who has participated in the Olympics thrice, also joked with her brother after tying Rakhi. She said that this time her brother Harvinder has gifted her entire life’s earnings, last year he had given only five hundred rupees.
On the occasion of Rakhi festival, Vinesh Phogat tied a rakhi to her brother wearing the Olympic jersey. Vinesh said in a video, ‘I am almost 30 years old now. Earlier he used to give me 10 rupees, last year he gave me 500 rupees. Now he has given me my entire life’s earnings. Thank you brothers and sisters.’ This video was shared by her brother.

Vinesh Phogat reached Delhi on 17 August

Her family, friends and fellow wrestlers Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia came to meet her at the airport. By the time she reached the village, thousands of people gathered to welcome her. Seeing the love of the people at the airport, Vinesh cried. The distance from Delhi to her village was about 135 kms and she spent the entire journey among the people. It took her about 12 hours to cover the 135 kms journey from Delhi to Balali. People of many villages welcomed her on the way. She stopped at many places like Dhankat Badli Jahajgarh, Loharwada Ghasaula and Mandola and met the people. Vinesh had said, ‘So what if I did not get the gold medal, but the people here have given me more love than the gold medal.’ 750 kg of desi ghee laddus were made in her village. She was welcomed like a hero when she reached the village on Saturday. The love she received despite losing in the Olympics impressed Vinesh a lot.

Vinesh was the first Indian female wrestler to reach the final of the Olympics. But she was disqualified on the day of the final due to weight gain. Vinesh appealed to the Sports Arbitration Court and said that she should get the silver medal. Her lawyers, including senior advocate Harish Salve, argued that since Vinesh had won three matches on the first day, she should get the silver medal. But her appeal was rejected.
