One of the last oil paintings by the expressionist August Macke (1887 – 1914) is to be auctioned on June 10th and 11th in Munich. “Girl with Blue Birds” from 1914 had been privately owned for almost 100 years, the auction house Ketterer Kunst announced on Monday in Munich. The estimated price is between two and three million euros. It is said that Macke painted the painting in the summer of 1914. A few weeks later he was drafted into the army and died in World War I on September 26. After Macke’s death, the picture remained in the artist’s estate, according to the announcement. In 1928 it came to its previous owner. (dpa)
