Lateral thinker demos on weekends remain prohibited

BerlinThe rally planned for Sunday by the initiative “Quer Think 711” from Stuttgart on the Strasse des 17. Juni in Berlin remains forbidden. The Berlin administrative court has rejected the urgent application against the corresponding ban on demonstrations, as a spokesman for the judicial authority announced on Friday evening. 22,500 participants were registered for the rally on Sunday afternoon.

Another demonstration planned for Sunday in the federal capital will also remain prohibited. The Berlin police had banned a total of twelve planned meetings in the city for the weekend.

In the afternoon, the administrative judges had already rejected an urgent motion against the ban on a planned demo by opponents of the corona policy. 3500 participants were registered for the demo planned for Sunday morning under the motto “Peace, Freedom, Truth”.

As a court spokesman said, the court has confirmed the police’s assessment of possible health risks in the event that the demonstration should take place. As experience with numerous similar meetings in the past has shown, the applicant will not reliably guarantee that the infection protection requirements will be complied with, according to the reasons for the judgment, among other things. The 1st chamber of the court referred to the increased risk of infection through the Delta variant. Against the background of the expected number of participants, the large number of meetings registered for the same occasion and the networking of those who can be assigned to the lateral thinker scene, a considerable influx and outflow of meeting participants can be expected.

As reported, the assembly authority of the police on Thursday banned twelve gatherings of critics of the corona measures imposed by the government. On Friday the police announced that a 13th demonstration had also been banned. The bans relate to gatherings at which, according to the police, participants regularly do not accept legal regulations, for example on infection protection, and those responsible are at least partially unwilling or unable to take countermeasures in the event of corresponding violations.

Police justify why they let go of the CSD demonstration

“The bans give the fatal impression that the Senate is deliberately abusing our police to enforce its own party-political agenda,” said Marcel Luthe, the top candidate of the Free Voters, of the Berliner Zeitung. “Anyone who allows a 60,000 demonstration with the distribution of flyers for the Jusos and prohibits others must give very good reasons for this. In a constitutional state, the same is to be treated equally. ”Luthe was referring to the demonstration on Christopher Street Day (CSD) last Saturday, during which many participants did not wear a mask and did not adhere to the safety distances prescribed by the police. The police left it with announcements. In this elevator, the Jusos distributed campaign ads for the SPD, which also includes Berlin’s Senator for the Interior, Andreas Geisel.

At least according to the assessment of the police, the now forbidden gatherings differ considerably from all other gatherings with a high number of participants, such as the CSD demonstration. “Even if there can be violations at the other meetings, the legal regulations are largely followed,” said police spokesman Thilo Cablitz.
