HV.1 Variant Now Accounts for 25.2% of COVID Cases in the US

The latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has revealed that the HV.1 variant now makes up 25.2 percent of COVID cases in the US, surpassing the EG.5 variant which accounts for 21.9 percent.

The EG.5 variant, known as Eris, first emerged in August and is the most prominent strain worldwide, making up about 46 percent of cases globally. On the other hand, HV.1 was also first identified over the summer but in low numbers.

Both HV.1 and EG.5 are offshoots of the highly contagious Omicron strain. As per reports, the symptoms of HV.1 are similar to Eris and include runny nose, sneezing, cough, nausea, sore throat, congestion, fatigue, headache, and muscle aches.

The rise of the HV.1 variant raises concerns about the ongoing battle against COVID-19 and emphasizes the importance of monitoring and tracking the spread of different variants.
