In conjunction with the continued Israeli land, sea and air bombardment of Gaza and the West Bank, which has left tens of thousands of martyrs and wounded, diseases have begun to spread in the Strip, in addition to the spread of a deadly famine!

In the context, health officials in the Gaza Strip said that “skin diseases are spreading in Gaza due to the horrific conditions in the crowded camps that house hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who were expelled from their homes, in addition to the summer heat and the collapse of the sewage system that left pools of open sewage during 10 months of Israeli bombing and attacks in the Strip.”

According to the World Health Organization, “doctors are struggling to treat more than 103,000 cases of lice and scabies and 65,000 cases of skin rashes there.”

“A large number of distressed children and worried parents are flocking to the dermatology clinic at Nasser Hospital in central Gaza, some with red and white patches covering their face, neck and chest, or rashes on their backs, thighs and abdomen, or ulcers on their wrists and open sores from scratches,” officials said.

According to the United Nations Development Programme, “In the Gaza Strip, which has a population of about 2.3 million, more than one million cases of acute respiratory infections have been recorded since the outbreak of the war, along with more than half a million cases of acute diarrhea and more than 100,000 cases of jaundice.”

“The hospital receives between 300 and 500 people daily suffering from skin diseases,” said Naseem Basla, a dermatologist at Nasser Hospital.

“Scabies and lice have become epidemic proportions, but there are also fungal, bacterial, viral and other parasitic infections that are spreading widely,” the doctor added.

According to the doctor, “impetigo is a simple bacterial infection that can be treated with ointments and creams. But sometimes, by the time the patient reaches the doctor, “the bacteria have spread and affected the kidneys.”

“We’ve seen kidney failure,” he said, and the scratched rash is easily infected with dirt. “Children are the worst affected, but adults are also suffering,” he said, adding that ointments are becoming scarce in the hospital.

In this context, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz revealed that “48 Palestinian prisoners were killed inside Israeli prisons since the beginning of the war on Gaza, including 36 prisoners from the Gaza Strip who were killed in Sidi Timan prison.”

The official Israeli Broadcasting Authority revealed that “10 soldiers severely beat a prisoner from Gaza, whose name was not mentioned, and he was transferred to the hospital with serious injuries, even to his anus, which required the military police to open an investigation.”

“The military police investigators have some evidence that reinforces the suspicion that the reserve prison trainers committed an act of sodomy against the prisoner who was being held,” the Ynet website said, noting that “a medical report indicates that the prisoner was hospitalized as a result of serious injuries to his buttocks, and suffered severe bleeding due to the serious injury to his anus that was allegedly caused by an object.”

It is noteworthy that the war on Gaza left more than 130 thousand Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10 thousand missing, amidst massive destruction and deadly famine. Today, Tuesday, medical teams recovered the bodies of 20 dead people from the city of Rafah and the eastern towns of the city of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.

In the West Bank, Palestinian media reported that Israeli forces stormed the city of Qalqilya, surrounded a residential building, and arrested the young man Adi Malouh and the young man Muhammad Taha. Israeli forces also stormed Wadi al-Saman, south of Hebron, and the town of Beit Ummar, north of it, while a foot force stormed the town of Silwad, north of Ramallah, and arrested a young man and abused him. Israeli forces also arrested 15 Palestinian men, including children, and former detainees.

In conjunction with its war on Gaza, the Israeli army intensified its operations in the West Bank, leaving 592 dead in addition to about 5,400 wounded, while the number of West Bank detainees in Israeli prisons rose to 9,870 since the beginning of the war on October 7.
